The four things that actually move the price
1. Private trip or open trip
This is the biggest single difference and it explains most of the spread you see online.
An open trip is a shared departure. An operator sets a date, sells seats individually, and fills the boat with strangers. Per person it is cheap, because the boat and the fuel are split across a full load. You travel on the group's schedule, at the group's pace, with the group's decisions about how long to spend anywhere.
A private trip books the boat for your party. The route flexes to your interests and the day's conditions. You are not waiting for eleven other people to finish photographing a viewpoint.
We run private trips. That is a real difference in what you get, not a marketing gloss, and it is the honest reason our per-person rate doesn't look like an open-trip advertisement. If a shared departure is the right call for your budget, that is a legitimate choice and we set out the trade-offs on Labengki private trips versus open trips.
2. How many of you are travelling
On a private trip, the boat costs what the boat costs. The crew costs what the crew costs. Fuel for the route is roughly fixed. Those costs are then divided among the people on board.
So the per-person rate falls as the group grows. Two people pay more each than six people do, for the same boat doing the same route. This is not a bulk discount in the retail sense. It is arithmetic.
The practical consequence: if you're a couple thinking about this trip and you have friends who might come, the conversation is worth having. The saving per head between a small group and a full one is significant.
3. How many days
Four lengths, three through six days. Each additional day adds accommodation, meals and crew time, so the total rises. The per-day cost tends to move in the other direction, because the fixed cost of getting out there and back is spread across more days on the water.
That is worth thinking about before defaulting to the shortest option. A three-day trip spends a large share of itself in transit. A longer trip buys proportionally more time actually looking at things. There is a fuller comparison on what a longer Labengki itinerary adds.
4. Which room tier
We offer two accommodation tiers: a Bajo family homestay in the village or cottage accommodation on Labengki Besar. Our crew reports electricity from 18:00 to 06:00 for these stays. Ask for the room and bathroom arrangement for your party before choosing a tier.

What is included
Every one of our packages includes:
- The boat and crew for the whole trip
- Accommodation, shared bathroom, two people per room
- All meals during the island hopping, plus drinking water
- Snacks and soft drinks
- Entrance and local fees at the stops
- Your guide
- Photo and video documentation of the trip
Photo and video documentation is included. Ask how the files will be shared and bring your own camera if particular shots matter to you. Conditions, access and the time available at each stop affect what can be photographed.
What is not included
- Flights to and from Kendari
- Hotels in Kendari before and after the trip
- Snorkeling gear
- Alcohol
- Personal spending and personal medication
Those first two matter most for budgeting, and the second one catches people out. Because the boat leaves in the morning, you need to be in Kendari the night before. That hotel night is yours. On the return, whether you can fly out the same day depends on the trip. Ask before you book a connection.
The costs people forget
Beyond the package, budget for:
Cash for the islands. There's no ATM out there. Whatever you want for souvenirs, village purchases and incidentals has to come with you from the mainland.
Snorkeling gear, if you don't own any. Buying a mask that fits your face is one of the better small investments in a trip like this, and rental gear is a lottery.
A dry bag and a power bank, if you don't already travel with them. Both are genuinely necessary here rather than nice to have, for reasons set out on why a dry bag tops the Labengki packing list.
Your Kendari nights, at both ends.
Travel insurance that actually covers boat travel and remote areas. Read the policy rather than assuming.
Why our number won't match the cheapest thing you find
Stated plainly, because pretending otherwise wastes your time and ours.
We're a private-trip operator. The boat is yours. Rates are per person and they fall as the group grows. Meals, water, fees, guiding and photo documentation are inside the price rather than bolted on afterwards. And the trip runs on a route the crew adjusts for the tide and the sea state on the day, which is a service you are paying for even when it is invisible.
If the lowest advertised figure you have found is the deciding factor, an open trip will beat us and we would rather you knew that before you enquired. If what you want is a boat that goes where the conditions are best that morning, this is what that costs.

Common questions
Why do prices online vary so much for what looks like the same trip? Because they are not the same trip. Most of the low figures are open trips, sold per seat on a shared boat. Most of the higher figures are private charters. Some are old prices from operators who no longer run.
Do I pay per person or for the boat? Per person. The rate depends on trip length, room tier and how many of you are travelling.
Is there a deposit? Some form of advance payment is normal for trips like this anywhere in the region, because food and fuel are bought before departure and there are no shops once you leave. We'll tell you the terms when you enquire.
Is snorkeling gear really not included? Correct. Bring your own mask and snorkel if you can. Fit matters more than quality for a mask, and a borrowed one that leaks will spoil a good day. If you'd rather not carry it, gear rents on Labengki for around IDR 40,000 a day.
Do I need cash, and how much? Yes. There's no ATM on the islands, so bring it from Kendari. Around IDR 300,000 is enough for a trip, which surprises people who were bracing for more. There's very little to buy out there beyond snacks, and meals, water and entrance fees are already included. Some places take transfers now, but not enough of them to plan around.
Are there fees I pay on the day? No. Entrance and local fees at every stop are inside the package, and there's no separate village retribution collected on the day, at Mbokita or anywhere else on the route. What you pay us is what the trip costs.
